Deacons – The Field Church

God’s Word prescribes two offices within His local churches, elders and deacons (1 Tim 3:1-13). Scripture is clear that leadership, shepherding, overseeing, teaching, and preaching are delegated to a plurality of godly men known as elders (1 Tim 5:17; Heb 13:17; 1 Pet 5:1-2). However, the church often experiences physical and temporal needs that would otherwise keep the elders from serving the spiritual needs of the church (Acts 6:1-6). Thus, the Lord provides His local churches with servants known as deacons to assist the elders in the ministry of the physical, temporal, and administrative needs of the local church (Rom 16:1-2; 1 Cor 16:15-18).
